Building 5 was something about video games. The Silent Disco doesn’t look like a Disco at all just cheap projections on the walls. This year the EXPO BUILDINGS have almost nothing to see at all. But now, it takes less than one full day. There were so many good attractions it felt like a Disney Theme Park. It used to take THREE DAYS to see everything. On the Monorail you hear the narrator say that the State Fair is like Disneyland of the north. The county exhibits are nothing compared to what they were back in the 60's and 70's !!!! My family used to drive from Reno twice a year once just to attend the fair! The flower displays, the home-made foods from local groups and local entertainment were out-standing in my memories! I know the world has changed but a fair should be a show case of what real people, who live here, do, produce, enjoy and identifies them by diversity in culture, food, etc. There were no acts from local Russian, Asian, Native Indian groups that day. Sadly missed the one performance of a local hula group. Really missed seeing more representation of the ethnic groups that are found within CA. Things I found lacking: My grandson, who turned 6 this July, enjoyed a FEW kiddie rides.he would have had more but they are so EXPENSIVE ! I wish there was more fair food that is NOT fried ! More healthy, light choices would be great as greasy food does not settle well with the heat (and rides). It's sad when most of our younger generations do NOT learn to cook, grow vegetables or sew ! Sadly that is why they eat the way they do! Really enjoyed the following: the kangaroos and other wild animals, the Rock and Roll (interactive) exhibit and the farm/agriculture area! Also noted that the CA Fine Arts exhibits were very well displayed this year. The best part of my state fair visit this year was the weather! It didn't go over 85 and there was a breeze! My daughter, grandson (age 6) and I went on the first Sunday it was open. Deep fried everything! Also the entertainment is terrific. Ice cream cones that hold a half gallon of gelato. Of course the carnival is a big draw, but it did not interest me much.įood stands are big and have many over sized and over the top! Massive ribs with huge chunks of meat attached to it. The nursery is also fun and a great way to see newborn farm animals up close.Ĭheck out the race track and watch the splash dog completion. Please enjoy the gardens, aquaculture, Ag mechanics and livestock exhibits. Enjoy a snack or meal on the wine or beer garden, it is cool and comfortable. They are over priced, but if you want it them go for it. See the County exhibits and look at the wares that are being sold. The Fifth Dimension is worth waiting in line for. It is terrific to see examples of how talented and creative our youth are. I enjoyed the first day of the fair.Īll the exhibit buildings.
