I guess I just have to wait for 6e to comes out before I can have legal 5e PDFs. I own PDFs of 1e, 2e, 3e, and 4e, and I purchased them for reasonable prices from WotC. I'm even more annoyed by the fact that I can buy all the books I need to have a fun game of D&D, in PDF format, for any edition other than 5e. Heck, several RPGs give you the PDF free if you buy the hardcover book.Īll we wanted was $10-$20 PDFs for the current version of D&D, but we got D&D Beyond. It's annoying that I can start playing any other RPG, by buying a $30-$40 hardcover book or a $10-$20 PDF. PDFs would have been amazing for everyone. The sad truth is D&DBeyond is great for a small group of people, and okay for an even smaller group of people. It's not worth buying the books again, and having the books in two different formats is more of a pain in my opinion. I'd love to have used this licensed alternative, but I'm not switching to it after over 3 years of purchasing the hardcover books. The issue is, most of the fan base and even large swaths of new players, purchased the core rulebooks before then. The only people who could've bought their first books on D&DBeyond are those who purchased the books during or after August 2017. I think the issue is that the main group who benefit from this are the people who didn't play and support D&D from August 2014 through August 2017. You can use the character view as a character sheet, of course, but if you want something to print off, it's almost better to copy it down by hand. That said I wish the printable character sheets from DNDBeyond didn't suck. I mean, sure, not everyone will use it when there's free alternatives (that let you type in your own information, and in that case it's like, what's even the point) but I'm at a point in my life when I don't have much of a problem solving time problems ("this is hard to look up in the print book") with money. And even if you add the price I paid for the print book and its copy on DNDBeyond, it's still less than the list price of the book on its own. I mean, I didn't buy any of the print books at full price, and neither have I bought the books I bought on DNDBeyond at full price, either. I could be wrong, but I do not believe many people are going to want to invest in both a digital version and a physical version that are separately full cost (coupons like this one notwithstanding). I think this is the biggest failing of D&D Beyond. Please instead reply in the ongoing threads rather than making new ones.įeel free to add to the community resource folder and the resource list.
